Holy Week & Easter

Sunday, April 10, 2022 – Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday, also known as Passion Sunday. In the Entrance with the Palms we experience the joyous demonstration of loyalty to Jesus as he enters Jerusalem. We invite the children of the church to process into the sanctuary waving palms as a festive hymn is sung at 9:30 AM. Palm Sunday can feel like a day of celebration, but there is no triumph without suffering, no crown without a cross, so be prepared to experience the whole story of Christ’s Passion.

Thursday, April 14, 2022 – Maundy Thursday (6 PM) is the night Christians commemorate the supper Jesus shared with his disciples before his crucifixion, when Jesus washed the disciples’ feet, and instituted the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper.  It’s a service of confession and pardon, proclamation of the Word, foot/hand washing, the Lord’s Supper, and stripping of the church.

Friday, April 15 – On Good Friday (6 PM) we take time to meditate on Jesus’ crucifixion. The sanctuary is bare of all decorations except the cross, partially veiled. It is a time to reflect on Jesus’ sacrifice and how we are called to emulate Christ.

Sunday, April 17, 2022 – Easter Sunday! It’s time to celebrate the saving events of Jesus Christ’s suffering, death, and resurrection, the most holy day of the Christian year. We proclaim and celebrate the whole of salvation history and Christ’s saving work with baptism, song, and Alleluia’s! Celebrate at Santee Lakes (6:30 AM), or at Santee UMC (9:30 AM). Children will enjoy an Easter Egg Hunt at 10:45 AM.
